It’s a good idea to have a look at the hospital’s facilities before you make your decision. We’ve picked the best Private and Public hospitals for you to choose from in Hong Kong.     How much does it cost to deliver a baby in Hong Kong?

    • In Hong Kong, for normal childbirth in a private hospital in Hong Kong, the cost is approximately HK$100,000 (semi-private room) to HK$250,000 for emergency deliveries (including C-sections).  For public hospitals, the cost is significantly less (inpatient fees for a 3 days & 2 nights stay is HK$360 (room fee) + HK$75 (admin fee) and you can use your Octopus card to pay!).

    Pros/Cons of Public Hospital Delivery In Hong Kong?

    • PRO: Affordable + available (they can not turn your down)
    • PRO: The C-section rate is lower in public hospitals versus private hospitals
    • PRO: Fantastic for emergency situations
    • CON: Language can be an issue, food is limited in terms of variety, and birth plans are not always honored
    • CON: Your OBGYN will not be allowed
    • CON: Less privacy compared to private hospital options.

    • PRO: Lots of support on hand from delivery to post-delivery resources!
    • PRO:  You have more access to English language staff and the food is more varied.
    • PRO: Your OBGYN is your delivery doctor in most cases.
    • CON: The cost!
    • CON: Delivery dates fill up - book early!  Your booking is not confirmed until you head into delivery
    • CON:  If an emergency occurs, it can be very costly and many are moved to a public more-equipped hospital.

    A favorite hospital for public deliveries in Hong Kong.  If you have a referral from your GP or OBGYN and are a HKID holder, you may be able to get a private room at Queen Mary Hospital. The hospital has obstetricians, anesthesiologists and neonatologists available around the clock. At the nearby Tsan Yuk Hospital, you can get antenatal and postnatal check-ups, as well as exercise classes to help get you back into pre-pregnancy shape.  Be sure to check your catchment area to see if you apply.
